Ogden Branch of the NAACP and partners to prolong a “Day of Service” and the legacy of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. on January 19, 2015
Contact: Mr. Joseph Nicholas
The Ogden Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) along with Ogden/Weber Community Action Partnership, Inc., Marshall White Community Center, and Weber State University will host a breakfast at the Marshall White Center (222 28th Street, Ogden Utah) on January 19, 2015 to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.
We are sustaining the national call to action by making our celebration “A Day of Service” with volunteers from cities throughout Weber County and Davis County, and our purpose is to keep Dr. King’s legacy active as “A Day On, Not A Day Off.”
The venue doors will open at 9:00 a.m. for socializing and the watching of the “I have a Dream” speech that was delivered by Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. The program begins at 9:30 a.m., and breakfast will be served soon after.
Our guest speaker for the event is Reverend Lamar T. Jackson, Pastor of True Vine Baptist Church in Kaysville Utah.
A march to the Ogden amphitheater will be led by students from Weber State University to further engage us in a time of reflection on the preliminary work of the civil rights era. Additional acts of service will provide voter registration and the distribution of quality-of-life resources and supplies.
The event is free, and everyone is invited to attend.
